Ortho-Bionomy® 2024 Classes
Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle, non-invasive, osteopathically-based form of body therapy which is highly effective in working with chronic stress, injuries and pains or problems associated with postural and structural imbalances. The practitioner uses gentle movements and positions of the body to facilitate the change of stress and pain patterns. A strong focus is placed on the comfort of the individual, no forceful manipulations are used. The practitioner also suggests home exercises that individuals can do to further facilitate the neuromuscular re-education process begun in the session. Ortho-Bionomy is very effective in helping alleviate both acute and chronic pain and stress patterns by reducing chronic muscle tension, soothing the joints, increasing flexibility, improving circulation, and relaxing the entire body.
Ortho-Bionomy was developed by Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls, a British osteopath, who wanted to find a way to work with the body which honored the body's inherent wisdom. From his experience as a Judo instructor and through his training as an osteopath, he found ways of working with the body by exaggerating the body's preferred postures, thereby permitting the body's self-healing process to create greater balance and alignment. He discovered that by working WITH the body and not against it, the body could find balance on its own without having to use force to correct it. Dr. Pauls began teaching this work in the United States in 1976, and taught Ortho-Bionomy extensively throughout Europe.
The term "Ortho-Bionomy" comes from "ortho" meaning correct or straight, "bio" meaning life, and "nomy" meaning the laws of or study of. Dr. Pauls defined the term then as "the correct application of the laws of life." He stated "[Ortho-Bionomy] is really about understanding your whole life cycle. Naturally, we focus on the structure because that is the literal skeleton upon which our life is built. When your structure works right, your circulation works better, you feel better, you think better." (Kain and Berns, 1992) Ortho-Bionomy® and the Sand Dollar design are registered trademarks of the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International, Inc. and are used with permission. ____________________
Phase 6
taught by Denise Deig, Advanced Instructor 16 Contact Hours Indianapolis, Indiana July 13th -14th, 2024 Saturday - Sunday Daily 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Phase 6 is an Energetic Application of the Principles, Techniques, and Practices we have learned in Phase 4 and Phase 5 Ortho-Bionomy Classes. In Phase 6, we primarily work with the Etheric Body, Aura, Subtle Bodies or Energy Field of the client. Any of these terms can be used interchangeable, based on your background and exposure to what is commonly termed “Energy Work”. At times, we will have our hands on our client’s physical body, but most of the interface occurs off the body. taught by Denise Deig, Advanced Instructor 18 Contact Hours Seattle, Washington (Exact Location to be determined) May 31st - June 2nd, 2024 Friday 4 pm - 9 pm Saturday - Sunday 9 am to 5 pm In this course the physiology and neurology underlying Phase 4 Ortho-Bionomy and PRT will be presented. Format of class will be lecture and demonstration followed by practice time. Muscle groups to be covered in this two day course will include pelvis, lower extremity, trunk, upper extremity, head, neck and paraspinals. Your client handling skills will be enhanced and refined through layer palpation and applied anatomy. To Register: Contact: BJ Erkan [email protected] (425) 329-5913 Bothell Integrated Health Medical Massage Isometrics
Co-taught by Denise Deig, Advanced Instructor & Ann Chan, OB Instructor 16 Contact Hours Champaign, Illinois April 27th - 28th, 2024 Saturday - Sunday Daily 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Isometrics are one of the most valuable tools we use in Ortho-Bionomy. They provide a fast and reliable means of resetting the neuromuscular mechanism and thereby normal restoring normal resting length on both sides of the joint. This begins the neurological re-education process, resets long held patterns of dysfunction, actively engages the client in the therapeutic process, and often insures a more lasting response due to the depth of change within the nervous system. This foundational work can transform your practice. The more you understand the rationale behind Isometrics and integrate them into your sessions the more successful will be your results. OB Residential "Finding Balance"
taught by Denise Deig, Advanced Instructor & Lynn Marotta, OB Instructor
40 Contact Hours
McCormick's Creek State Park
September 8th - 13th, 2024
In this residential, we will explore and expand upon the theme of balance in all things. This includes finding our own internal equilibrium and from that perspective helping others achieve their optimal point of balance through the myriad of possibilities that Ortho-Bionomy® offers. To achieve this dynamic neutral requires advanced skill development, as we hold the whole and the part, soft and bony tissues, and integration of the whole self in view as we treat. On this middle path, we may find that neutrality offers a powerful place from which to move and function.
Contact Keri Brown for more information or to register.

Cranial II
Facial Bones & Temporal Mandibular Joint
taught by Denise Deig, Advanced Instructor
24 Contact Hours
Cranial I is a prerequisite for Cranial II. The Sphenoid Bone, or Anterior component of the S/B Junction, and it's function is the primary driver or determinate for all of the Facial Bones. We will first review the function of the S/B Junction learned in Cranial I, and use it for ongoing assessment during this 3 Day Class. We will address each Facial Bone and all of it's articulations during this Class, from an Ortho-Bionomy and Positional Release perspective. In addition to the Sphenoid Bone, this will include; Frontal, Ethmoid, Lacrimal, Nasal, Vomer, Zygoma, Maxilla (Palate), Palatine, and Mandible Bones. These frontal bones constitute the Orbit of the Eye, the body structure of the Nose, and the foundation of the Mouth. The Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) is a highly complex joint which has extraordinary demands placed upon it in the course of daily living. Eating and talking are two of its functions, which are vital to life. We will start by treating Muscles which have an influence or attachment on the TMJ.

Chapman's Neurolymphatic Reflexes
taught by Denise Deig, Advanced OB Instructor
24 Contact Hours
1920 Frank Chapman, DO discovered a Reflex link between Endocrine Glands, the Viscera & Lymphatics. “An Endocrine Interpretation of Chapman’s Reflexes”, was written by Charles Owens, DO (Chapman’s brother-in law) in 1937. In this book, he proposes that the stimulation of the Chapman’s Reflexes contributes to lymphatic drainage, balances the Autonomic Nervous System, and is beneficial to the Reflex’s target Organs and Glands. He suggests certain protocols for working with these Reflexes and describes the key role the Endocrine system plays when considering a more systemic approach to their use. We will first learn the rational behind the use of Chapman’s Reflexes. We will then learn the Anterior Points followed by the Posterior Points. We will finish by learning about treating using related Groups of Chapman’s Points.
Please consider joining us for this Class. No prerequisites are required. You will gain a wealth of knowledge for you and your family’s Self-Care and for your Clients.

Exploration of Movement
taught by Denise Deig, Advanced Instructor
16 Contact Hours
Exploration of Movement (EOM) is an important component of Phase 4 Ortho-Bionomy bodywork. It involves accessing Range of Motion (ROM) with various Joints or body parts, holding Release Positions, and Reassessing the Range of Motion. The basic movement choices will be presented, but more important than performing each of these options is to begin to develop and extend your listening and palpation skills into the realm of movement.
